Freedom!

Well that's it! Exams are finished and we are finally ready to dive into the world of online business. Currently, we are experimenting with a few things, and we are beginning to plan for our first couple of major projects. We are trying to work as much as possible, but of course the holidays impede this a bit. We'll be going at full steam shortly. I am looking forward to this challenge, which is a much welcome change from that of the years of schooling.

In site news, we have unfortunately been forced to shut down trackbacks due to a ridiculous amount of spam. On average, we get a spam trackback every 4 minutes. So, our approval queues are filled to the brink, and we would never notice if another legitimite site has actually trackbacked us. I'm quite disappointed it has come to this, but we have no choice as of now. If any readers have tips about this topic, let us know!

Aside from that, we wish you all happy holidays! Party hardy :)

Exams are a pain...

You've probably noticed we haven't been posting lately. This is because Chris and I are smack dab in the middle of exam period. Studying has taken all of our time, but luckily it's almost over. Our last exams are this weekend, so we'll be officially starting this journey full time a short time afterwards.

We'll be back soon!

Five things you might not know about me

We've been tagged by Ted over at the Blogging for Business site, so here's our entry!

Tim:
1. I'm single
That's right ladies, I'm available. In fact, I've been available for way too long!!!

2. I'm writing a book
For about half a year now I've been working on this book on-and-off, and it's actually going quite alright. I've almost thought of the entire plot line, I just need to invest more time in actually writing it though.

3. I'm ... extremely careful with money... NOT CHEAP! (thank you George Costanza)
Ok, this is simply because I have only had a couple of jobs in my day, so I've learned to save my money. I don't really go out that much or anything, so I've been able to make my little money last a very long time. Once money starts flowing in from these projects though, it will surely be a different story ;)

4. I've been a vegetarian my whole life!
Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian to be more precise, I eat eggs and dairy, but nothing else. My parents chose to become vegetarians when I was born, and it has been that way ever since. I'm in no way forced to remain a vegetarian, but there are lots of reasons I do.

5. I once auditioned for a band-aid commercial at age 5...
But forgot all the lines! I guess that was the death of my acting career hahaha. Who knows, maybe I'll give it another shot one day.

Chris:
1. I've never gone to a barber shop.
Yes! Believe it or not, my father has cut my hair ever since I was a child; I have yet to pay for a cut!

2. My life goal is to own a high end restaurant.
Be it in 10, 15 or 20 years, I eventually plan to open my own restaurant. It will be a heck of a lot of work, but so much fun at the same time. I've always enjoyed the food industry and hopefully one day be part of it.

3. I enjoy a wide array of hobbies
It seems almost every week I'm trying out or doing something different in the world of hobbies. The three latest hobbies that I have grown to love are collecting Canadian coins and paper money, growing plants/trees/herbs, and making my own wine!

4. I've had a major operation
When I was about 6 years old, I had a tumor in my left leg. Luckily, it wasn't malignant and the operation went successfully! I had to go the Hospital every single year until I was 18 to get x-rays done and see if I was healing fine. The best part about that was getting the free lemonade at the end... mmm....free lemonade....

5.I've only been on a plane once
Two summers ago was the first time I've ever been on a plane. I went to Cancun, Mexico and really wasn't that impressed. The fact that I got violently ill off their guacamole might have done it...

For all you gamers wanting to make a change

I was reading some blogs a while ago and found a great way to approach doing something productive when it comes to making money online. Usually, when I sit at my computer, I'll surf the net for a bit, then log on to whatever game I'm playing at the moment... but if I want to make something of myself on the net, there has to be some motivation to get me going. I'm sure most of you feel the same.

Check this article out from the "Retire young and wealthy" blog:
Think of adsense and affiliates as a computer game

It makes perfect sense. Think of a video game. As you play, your skill grows, and in the case of the ever popular mmorpg, your stats and possessions grow. This is truly a parallel to real life; for instance, replace those numerous hours of playing with working on something you enjoy, and instead of getting virtual skill and items, you'll get real life knowledge and hard earned cash! The best part is that you will get better at what you do and will be making money from it, therefore your earnings will continue to grow.

So next time you're getting ready to sit down for a 2+ hour play-a-thon, try doing something productive that interests you instead... make a flash game, write stories, read up on your favorite topics, make a website, contact a business partner, brainstorm ideas... the possibilities are endless, all you need to do is really want it! What is it? That's for you to decide.

Brainstorming to find your ideal business product or service

Lately, I have been brainstorming non stop about different types of products and services that Tim and I could provide to people. As hard as you think it might be, it can be fairly simple to figure out high income business opportunities. All you need to do is focus and dedicate some attention to brainstorming. A good idea is the first step towards great success; but even a normal everyday idea can create some interesting results.

This brainstorming process consists of 2 parts; both fairly straightforward. First, consistently throughout the day, try to take note of all the things you are doing. Be it eating, running, whatever, jot it all down. Secondly, at the end of the day, go through your list and notice all the activities that you did during the day. Now as you go through your list, ask yourself what you can do to make each activity better than it was. What can you bring as a product or service that would enrich or facilitate the experience of the person?

This may sounds like a silly way to brainstorm, but it works. After a few iterations of this, you will notice that you are spontaneously thinking of new ideas for products or services all the time. The reason this technique works so well is that you are able to pinpoint activities that you, as a consumer, are doing everyday. If you can think about something to market that someone could use every single day, you will be in the money (providing that it is fairly decent!).

If you are trying to brainstorm of a service you could provide for the ever growing World Wide Web, talk to someone who is so called 'technically challenged'. For this example, I will use my parents. Get them to brainstorm for you! My parents aren’t exactly the most knowledgeable people in terms of the net; they know how to send/receive email and that’s pretty much it. Ask them to do anything else, and they probably would look at me with a blank face. For that reason, they are a gold mine of information. Talk to them and ask them, 'what would you want to be able to do on the net?'. Take down all their answers, even if they sound ridiculous. Go over them and see what you can do; brainstorm on how you can develop their ideas and try to make them into something interesting. You never know what you might get from them; it could mean your future success!

Brainstorming in a pro-active manner is much easier than sitting in front of a blank piece of paper and hoping to come up with the next big idea. If you are open to seeing these ideas, you will find them. Once you come up with something, develop the core fundamentals of your plan as much as possible, and you may just end up with a profitable business opportunity!
